Migrant worker registration centers open nationwide

BANGKOK, July 24 (TNA) – The Ministry of Labour has opened about 100 registration centers across the country for undocumented migrant workers on the first day today to facilitate them to seek documents to work in Thailand legally before the lenient period ends. Many Thai employers on Monday brought their workers, most of whom are and Cambodian nationals to the registration center at the Ministry of Labour this morning. The ministry expects about 1,500 employers will register their workers at each center daily, bring the total number to about two million people during a 15-day period of service. These special centers will be opened for about two weeks until Aug 7. After the registration, employers and their workers will be appointed to meet labour officials again between Aug 8 to Sept 9 for verification of employment status and they will received official document from the Thai authorities for these workers to seek the Certificate of Identity (CI) from their country of origin. After that, migrant workers can apply for work permits from the Thai Ministry of Labour before the government’s lenient period ends on Dec 31 this year. (TNA)
