Minister Goes To Ground To Allay Terrorism Fear

JAMALUDDIN MUHAMMAD BANGKOK, Jan 20 (Bernama) – In a move to allay the fear of terrorism threats against tourist spots in this capital, Tourism and Sports Minister Chumpol Sinlapaarcha visited one of the famous tourist destinations, Khao San Road, here, Thursday night. He met tourists and vendors and asked them to have confidence in the security situation in this country. "Don't worry. Have confidence in Thailand. We will ensure your safety during your stay in this country. We will also ensure all tourist areas are safe," he said. Didrich Albersen, 25, said the visit by the minister was good in instilling confidence among tourists. "I just don't want to cancel my vacation just because of some terrorist threats. Anyway there is no place 100 per cent safe in this world," said Albersen who was visiting this country for the third time. Chutima Taweejulawong, 57, a local who sells belts in the area, said she did not want any trouble in this city as the country had already experienced lots of problems such as great floods and street protests in the past. She noticed that overall the number of tourists visiting the area had not dropped despite the terror alert. Several embassies in this country have issued terror alerts since last week on the possible terrorist attack against tourist areas in this capital in the near future. -- BERNAMA
