Moderate Quake Hits Maluku

Ambon, Maluku, July 18 (Antara) - An earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale shook Maluku Tenggara Barat district, Maluku province, at dawn on Thursday, according to the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) office in Ambon. The epicenter of the quake which struck at 04.46 a.m. local time on Thursday was in the sea 186 km southwest of the district at a depth of 166 km, the office said. Secretary of the Maluku Provincial Disaster Mitigation Board (BPBD) Kifly Wakano said the quake caused no damage to property. Maluku is one of the quake-and tsunami-prone provinces in Indonesia because it is located in the meeting of Pacific, Indo-Australia and Eurasia faults. (
