MONGOLIA TO CELEBRATE EARTH HOUR FOR THE 9TH YEAR

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The Earth Hour event will be held in Mongolia from 8.30PM to 9.30PM in the local time zone on Saturday, March 24, 2018. To be held for the ninth year, the Earth Hour will be co-organized by the World Wildlife Fund Mongolia Country Representative, the Energy Regulatory Commission, the Environmental Fellowship Program of Zorig Foundation, the Environment Department of Ulaanbaatar city and Arig Bank. During the event candles will be lighted up on the central square of the capital while all lights will be turned off for one hour as well as folk art concert will take place. Moreover, the Mongolian National Broadcaster will broadcast a discussion themed ‘Climate Change and Energy Efficiency’. With aims to increase engagement and improve understanding of individuals in combating climate change, the Earth Hour has been celebrated across the world since 2007 and Ulaanbaatar joined it in 2010. The first Earth Hour started in Sydney, Australia, in 2007. Over 2.2 million homes and businesses turned their lights off for one hour. Last year, more than three billion 500 million people across 5251 cities of 187 countries in 2017 joined the event to stand against climate change. E.Altanzul
