More than 200,000 workers needed: Ministry of Labour

BANGKOK, May 30 (TNA) – The Ministry of Labour’s survey found that employers and firms submitted their employee demands for 219,896 positions from October 2016 – April 2017 or about 31,414 positions per month. The ministry's Inspector-General and spokesperson Ananchai Uthaipatanacheep, cited the ministry’s figure, saying that the basic skill jobs needed the most workers at 74,981 positions, followed by customer service and salespersons at 40,540 positions. Moreover, employees with diploma and vocational certificates were needed most at 82,022 positions. Regarding the employment situation, the figure of the workers in the social welfare system showed that the employment rate in April 2017 stood at 10,523,934 people, up 1.80 per cent year-on-year. It indicated that more 185,867 people entered the workforce. Meanwhile, the unemployment rate in April 2017 was recorded at 460,000 people or 1.2 per cent, higher than 0.97 per cent of the same period last year. (TNA)
