More Leaders Of Democratic Party Summoned To Testify In Graft Case
Jakarta, Dec 11 (Antara) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has summoned more leaders of the ruling Democratic Party for questioning in a graft case.
Benny K Harman, former chairman of the Commission III of the House of Representatives, was summoned to testify in the high profile corruption case of Hambalang athlete training center project with Anas Urbaningrum, the former general chairman of the ruling party as suspect.
"Yet, yes," Benny K Harman said here on Wednesday in answer to question if he was to be investigated in connection with Anas`s graft case
Tiopan Bernhard Silalahi (TB Silalahi), a member of the Supervisory Body of the party, also appeared on Wednesday morning at KPK.
"Yes , I am summoned as member of the party supervisory body," TB Silalahi said , explaining, "the duty of the supervisory body is to watch the performances of the cadres of the party both in the legislative as well as executive bodies."
However, he said he was not if he was summoned in connection with Anas` case.
"I don`t know yet," he said.
KPK already investigated a number of other leaders of the party including chairman of the party supervisory body and who is House Speaker Marzuki Alie, deputy chairman of the party Max Sopacua, legislators Ruhut Sitompul and Sutan Bhatoegana.
KPK is investigating allegation that the party had used illicitly gained money from the Hambalang project to finance its congress in 2010 .
Corruption in the Hambalang project is estimated to cause a loss of Rp463.66 billion to the state.
Anas was named a suspect in February 2012 charged with accepting bribe when he was chairman of the party faction at the House of Representatives.
He was accused of receiving a Toyota Harrier car valued at around Rp800 million from contractor PT Adhi Karya to guarantee that the contractor won the tender for the Hambalang project.
