MRT offers free rides for royal funeral transport
BANGKOK, Sept 28 (TNA) – The Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) will offer free rides and increase electric train trips to serve the influx of mourners expected for the cremation of the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej next month.
MRTA acting governor, Rithika Suparat said that the MRT’s blue line from Tao Poon to Hua Lamphong and Purple Line from Tao Poon to Khlong Bang Phai will provide free services on Oct 26 and will extend the service time to 2pm of the next day. On Oct 25 and 27, free ride will be offered only for the Purple Line from 5.30am to midnight.
It will also operate as many as 19 trains for the Blue Line and 12 trains for the Purple Line and other facilities will be prepared to handle crowds of passengers.
Parking lots of the Blue Line will be available free of charge at the Lat Phrao station and the Thailand Cultural Centre Station on Oct 26 from 5am to 1am of the next day.
All four parking buildings of the Purple Line will be offered free of charge from Oct 25-27 from 5am to 1am. (TNA)
