Muhaimin Iskandar Retain Top Position In PKB

Surabaya, E Java, Sept 1 (Antara) - Muhaimin Iskandar has been voted in acclamation to keep the top position in the National Awakening Party (PKB) he held since 2005. All representatives from the regional branches of the party agreed in acclamation to name Muhaimin to carry on as the general chairman of the party for another five year term. Muhaimin, who had been a strong favorite to lead the party for another five years, is considered successful in consolidating the party and won significant increase in number of supporters in the legislative election earlier this year. The party national congress, which lasted until early Monday also agreed in acclamation to keep KH Azis Mansyur as chairman of the advisory council of the Islamic-based party. KH Aziz has held the position since 2008. The party which was established by Nahdatul Ulama leaders including the late President Abdrurrachamn Wahid, is member of the coalition that support President Elect Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and Vice President Elect Jusus Kalla (JK).
