Muslims are shopping for Hari Raya Aidilfitri

NARATHIWAT, June 21 (TNA) -- Muslims are shopping in Narathiwat province ahead of their Hari Raya Aidilfitri festival amid tight security measures. Families of Muslims are enjoying shopping new clothing in Narathiwat to prepare for the Hari Raya Aidilfitri festival, celebrated by Muslims worldwide that marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting. It was expected on either June 25 or 26. Most of them are buying products at affordable prices as heavy rain is obstructing the collection of latex. Well-to-do Muslims are buying gold ornaments for the festival. They are retailed at 20,600 baht per baht-weight. At local gold shops, those with financial burdens are selling gold ornaments to raise money for new clothes and other goods for Hari Raya Aidilfitri. Narathiwat police chief Manas Siksamat ordered subordinates at 19 stations in 13 districts to screen travelers at checkpoints to effectively protect commercial areas. Special security measures were emphasized in Tak Bai, Sungai Kolok districts and the provincial seat. (TNA)
