NCDR receives maiden copy of the largest world Atlas

Abu Dhabi, June 13, 2012 (WAM) - The National Centre for Documentation and Research (NCDR) has received the maiden copy of Earth Platinum, the largest world Atlas of which the Australian publishers Millennium House printed 31 copies only. Unique in its size, rich in content and limited in its edition, Earth Platinum is indeed a rare publication that would attract researchers and scholars, especially those specialised in geography. Upon receiving the maiden copy, Dr. Abdulla El-Reyes, Director General of the NCDR, said recognising the paramount importance of Earth Platinum, the NCDR has immediately sought acquisition thereof so that it may enrich its invaluable collections. He said that he was confident the new acquisition shall be of great help and benefit to users of the Emirates Library. "Geography is still history', he added and "this tremendous volume has been prepared by elite of cartographers, topographers and photographers." Al Reyes thanked H. H. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Presidential Affairs and Chairman of the NCDR for his sustainable support to the scientific research. He thanked Millennium House for its great achievement and praised its creativity. He also paid tribute to the close relations between Millennium House and the NCDR. On his part, the representative of Millennium House thanked the NCDR for the great interest it has shown in the new publication. "The NCDR was one of the first entities to be approached by Millennium House to acquire a copy of Earth Platinum, knowing very well that it is a worthy location for such a unique work. The NCDR library actually embraces many of the Atlases published by Millennium House'', he said. The 128-page Atlas embraces high resolution and unique pictures, as well as accurate maps presented as per subject, including maps of the Europe, America, Australia, Canada and India. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
