NIHR prepares to mark 10th anniversary

Manama, July 1 (BNA): The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) has launched "A Decade of Commitment in Defending Human Rights" motto on the 10th anniversary of its foundation. On this occasion, NIHR's Secretary-general Yasser Ghanim Shaheen recalled His Majesty the King's issuance of the Royal order establishing the National Institution in November 2009, defining its status, jurisdictions and powers commensurate with the Paris principles and in harmony with His Majesty’s reforms in consolidation of the State of the law and democratic institutions, freedoms and human rights. He added that after the approval of the Council of Representatives and the Shura Council, His Majesty the King issued Law 26/2014 establishing the National Institution for Human Rights and amended by Law 20/2016, emanating from His Majesty’s belief in the importance of the NIHR’s work and allowing it more independence financially and administratively. He highlighted the NIHR’s preparations to mark its tenth anniversary including an array of events, contests and programmes aimed to familiarize with the role of the National Institution and its role in spreading and promoting the culture of human rights
