No more storms towards Thailand in the near future
BANGKOK, July 28 (TNA) – The influence of former storm Sonca will start to fade away on July 29 and there will not be another storm in the near future, a water management expert said.
Chawalit Chantararat, CEO of water management Team Group, said tropical storm Sonca landed in Vietnam on July 25 and became a low pressure system over the Northeast. It passed the region quickly, so its impacts were limited. On the bright side, it added substantial amounts of water to northeastern reservoirs, he said.
He predicted that rain from the low pressure system would move to Phetchabun, Tak and Uthai Thani provinces on July 28-29. He said floods were possible in Mae Sot district of Tak and Lom Sak and Nong Phai districts of Phetchabun on July 28.
Rainwater might bring floods to low-lying areas including those in In Buri district of Sing Buri, Bang Ban and Sena districts of Ayutthaya, and Pamok district of Ang Thong. No flooding was expected in Pathum Thani, Nonthaburi and Bangkok, Mr Chawalit said.
After Sonca, no other storms would be approaching Thailand in the near future, he said. Other existing storms would go to Taiwan, Hong Kong and Japan. Overall rainwater was relatively low in the country this year as there were only two storms, Mr Chawalit said. (TNA)
