One-Stop 6P Centre To Be Opened In Cameron Highlands
PUTRAJAYA, March 2 (Bernama) -- A one-stop centre for the 6P programme -- an
exercise to provide a comprehensive solution to the illegal immigrant problems
-- will be opened at the National Registration Department (NRD) branch in Tanah
Rata, Cameron Highlands from March 5 to 23.
Home Ministry secretary-general Mahmood Adam said in a statement Friday that
the centre was to facilitate regularisation of more than 20,000 illegal foreign
workers in the agricultural sector in the area.
The centre operates from 8am to 6pm on weekdays.
The centre in Cameron Highlands is in addition to eight existing ones at the
Immigration Department headquarters in Putrajaya, immigration offices in
Precinct 15 and Port Klang, NRD headquarters in Putrajaya as well as Home
Ministry complexes in Jalan Duta, Johor Baharu, Seberang Jaya and Kuantan.
Except for applications to change employer, all dealings at the Cameron
Highlands branch will be the same as those at the main operation centre in
Putrajaya, which is ID application for employers to update the data of illegal
foreign workers, application for the notification letter to embassies,
processing of applications for foreign workers, levy payment and issuance of
approval letter.
The Cameron Highlands is one of Malaysia’s most extensive hill stations,
located at the northwestern tip of Pahang, the “Camerons” is approximately 85
kilometres (53 mi) from Ipoh or about 200 kilometres (120 mi) from Kuala Lumpur.
