Palembang Immigration Intensifies Illegal Immigrant Monitoring

Palembang, South Sumatra, July 17 (Antara) -The Palembang Immigration Office has intensified monitoring of illegal immigrants by improving coordination with the police and airport authorities. The monitoring has been stepped up following the Banyuasin Police`s success in foiling a smuggling attempt of seven Pakistani immigrants a week ago, said Sarwono T. Indrijanto, the Palembang immigration spokesperson, here on Wednesday. The Pakistani immigrants entered the Indonesian territory from the Malaysia by using sea transportation. They landed in Dumai and intended to go to Jakarta by land transportation to seek asylum in the UN Jakarta office. The Palembang immigration office has set up monitoring devises among other things in Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II Airport, Palembang, to monitor any illegal immigrant. Sarwono urged the local community to help report to the authorities if they suspect foreign immigrants having no legal documents to enter Indonesia.
