PM says government to solve flooding problem
BANGKOK, Aug 5 (TNA) -- Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha said Saturday that his government is thinking of solving flooding problem in Thailand on a long –term basis because it realises of rapid global warming which is to be seen frequently hereafter.
Thanking people on donating money for flood victims mostly in the Northeast and Northern regions, Gen Prayut said the government was able to collect more than 264 million baht from donators on Friday’s campaign on TV special programme.
Gen Prayut said he had talked with the governor of the central province of Nakhon Nayok and ordered the later to make preparations for flood which might occur in the Central region because monsoon season is expected to last in the next two or three months.
The premier said he was quite relived after being told by the governor that the dam in the Central now stored about 50 per cent of the total capacity.
Solving flood problem on a sustainable long-term basis could be made if water retaintion basins are made near mountains where water flows down and water is stored, he said, adding that surveys are underway to see where construction could be possible.
Gen Prayut said his government is putting efforts to solve flooding problem in Thailand as it realised that global weather condition from now on could change more frequently. (TNA)
