Police Arrest 53 Illegal Immigrants On Rote Island

Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara, April24 (ANTARA) - Police in Rote Ndao, East Nusa Tenggara, have arrested 53 illegal immigrants planning to cross to Australia from the island. The illegal immigrants from Myanmar, Bangladesh, Sudan and Somalia were referred to the Immigration Office in Kupang, the East Nusa Tenggara police spokesman, Adjunct Senior Commissioner Fegbrin Ida said here on Wednesday. "Early on Wednesday we arrested the 53 illegal immgrants seeking to cross to Australia by traditional fisherman`s boat," he said. The police acted after receiving information about suspicious activities of many foreigners in several locations near the coast on the island. The police then moved and arrested them who were found to be going to Kupang using a fisherman`s boat, he said.
