Police Will Liaise With Manila To Confirm Death Of Malaysians

GEORGE TOWN (Penang, Malaysia), Feb 11 (Bernama) -- The police will liaise with their counterpart in the Philippines to obtain confirmation that three Malaysians were killed when an Abu Sayyaf stronghold in Sulu was attacked, early this month. Malaysian Deputy Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar said police were still waiting for a response from the Philippine authorities on what transpired in Sulu, the southern region of Philippine. He said, their counterpart had encountered difficulties in locating the bodies and could not conduct DNA tests to confirm their identities. "I believe they are working hard to obtain the DNA samples," he said after a working visit to the Pulau Tikus Market (north Malaysia) here Saturday. The Philippine military had announced that a senior leader of Abu Sayyaf and the Singapore Islamiyah Jemaah, Malaysian Zulkifli Abdul Hir@Marwan, was among those killed in an attack on the stronghold of Abu Sayyaf and Jemaah Islamiah. However, recent reports disclosed that the police had yet to locate Zulkifli's body and those of Sabah Darul Islam members Amin Bacho and Jeknal Adil who could still be alive and had left the area. -- BERNAMA
