POS Malaysia Issues Special Stamps Featuring Smart Tunnel

POS MALAYSIA ISSUES SPECIAL STAMPS FEATURING SMART TUNNEL By Amanina Mohamad Yusof KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 17 (Bernama) -- Pos Malaysia Bhd (Pos Malaysia) expects the special stamps it will be launching next week, featuring the country's SMART tunnel, to be fully taken up within a month. Pos Malaysia Berhad is a post services company in Malaysia. "Previously, when we issued special stamps like KTMB's 125th anniversary last year, the stamps sold out on the day of issuance," Post Malaysia's Head of Stamp Philately Unit, Yasmin Ramli, told Bernama after a special preview here Thursday of the Special Stamps and First Day cover on "SMART tunnel - Underground Engineering Excellence". She expects 6,000 stamp collectors from Pos Malaysia's Standing Order Deposit Account holder to respond well to the stamps issuance. The anticipated good response is based on past trends, she said, adding that Pos Malaysia will also record several firsts with the issue of the stamps. The new stamps which will feature Malaysia's achievements in underground engineering will comprise, besides the standard size stamps, first day cover and folders as well as miniature sheets with the world's first lenticular stamp featuring an underground tunnel. It will also be Pos Malaysia's first such stamp. The stamps will also commemorate the 100 years' milestone of MMC Corporation Bhd (MMC) which built the SMART tunnel through the MMC-Gamuda Joint Venture Sdn Bhd. Yasmin said the miniature sheets measuring 80mm x 90mm have been printed on self adhesive security stamp paper to bring to life the visuals within the SMART Tunnel in two stamp pieces. Meanwhile the SMART tunnel or Stormwater Management and Road Tunnel is a project under the Federal Government initiated to alleviate the flooding problem in the city centre of Kuala Lumpur. Also present at the event Thursday was PosNiaga Chief Operating Officer Mearia Hamzah, SMART Tunnel Chief Operating Officer Mohd Fuad Kamal Ariffin and MMC Director of Finance Anwar Syahrin Ajib. Meanwhile, Yasmin said Pos Malaysia will issue a special stamp on the Malaysian royal institution next month. --BERNAMA
