Pos Malaysia-Pos Indonesia Cooperation Forges Closer Ties

By Ahmad Fuad Yahya JAKARTA, March 9 (Bernama) -- The cooperation between Pos Malaysia and Pos Indonesia is not only to facilitate business relations but to provide the medium for the people in the two countries to forge closer relations, said Malaysian Minister of Information, Communications and Culture Dr Rais Yatim. The minister also said the new cooperation had a huge potential to be expanded for economic benefits and at the same time, forge stronger relations between the people. "At the moment, there are two million Indonesian workers in Malaysia enjoying the postal service to remit money back to their families, involving a monetary flow of about RM6 billion a year," he said here Thursday. Earlier, Rais and Indonesian Minister of Communications and Information Technology Tifatus Sembiring had witnessed the signing of a joint venture agreement between Pos Malaysia and Pos Indonesia for an International Express Money Order (IEMO) service and Paket POSTerus, a parcel delivery service from Indonesia to Malaysia. Rais said he hoped best practices by the postal companies of the two countries would raise the level of confidence and support of the peple towards the services. The reception and support of the communities towards the services would open more opportunities to expand cooperation for such parcel delivery by pilgrims in Saudi Arabia to Indonesia and the direct exchange of money orders at the Malaysian-Indonesian border, he said. At the signing ceremony, Pos Malaysia was represented by its group chief executive officer Khalid Abdol Rahman while Pos Indonesia was represented by the company's main director, I Ketut Mardjana. In conjunction with the agreement signing, the two companies today also launched the IEMO and Paket POSTerus services. -- BERNAMA
