Pregnant Mom Denied Flight Entry, Delivers Still Born Baby At Airport
By P. Vijian
CHENNAI, Feb 17 (Bernama) -- A pregnant Indian passenger, who was denied
permission to board a Malaysia-bound flight due to safety concerns, delivered a
still-born baby on Thursday at the airport after developing labour pains.
A private airline staff at the Anna International Airport in Chennai barred
Shyamala Sundari, 31, from boarding the aircraft, as she did not carry medical
clearance chit to fly the nearly three-hour journey.
She was seven months pregnant.
"When she approached the airline counter to get her boarding pass, staff
requested for a medical certificate but Shyamala could not produce one.
"There was a verbal quarrel and she developed labour pain and tried to rush
to the restroom but collapsed. She delivered the baby in the restroom," reported
a vernacular daily in Chennai.
The woman was rushed to a private hospital where she is undergoing medical
treatment and is in stable condition.
Shyamala from the state of Andhra Pradesh was on her way to meet her husband
working in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
