President Asks Military Cadets To Face Technological Challenges

Surabaya, East Java, July 2 (Antara) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has asked the military and police cadets to be ready to face technological challenges and to carry out their tasks properly. "The military and police cadets must be ready to face technological challenges. We have significantly modernize our weaponry system to maintain sovereignty and territorial integrity of Indonesia," President Yudhoyono said when inaugurating 735 military and police cadets at the Bumimoro Naval Academy here on Tuesday. With the development of technology in the field of defense and the handling of crime, the head of state said the police and military cadets were required to carry out their tasks by adjusting themselves to technological development. "We need military personnel who are ready to operate the modern weaponry system that the state has had and will have," the president said. For the police personnel, the head of state said they should be able to address traditional crime by using the existing technological means. President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono here on Tuesday inaugurated 735 military and police cadets as officers in a ceremony at Bumimoro Naval Academy here on Tuesday. As the Supreme Commander of the Indonesian Military, President Yudhoyono inducted all the new officers himself in the ceremony which took placed at the main square of the Naval Academy. All 735 cadets who graduated from the Bumimoro Naval Academy in 2013 were made up of 235 military cadets, 105 Navy cadets, 108 Air Force cadets, and 284 police cadets. Present at the ceremony which was delayed for 15 minutes by heavy rain were Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Djoko Suyanto, Defense Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro, Minister/State Secretary Sudi Silalahi, National Defense Forces (TNI) Chief Admiral Agus Suhartono, National Police Chief Gen Timur Pradopo, and the army chief of staff, air force chief of staff, and navy chief of staff.
