President Asks Polri To Be Neutral In 2014 Election

Depok, West Java, July 1 (Antara) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has asked the National Police (Polri) to be neutral in maintaining security during the 2014 general elections. "I hope Polri will prevent the violation of law from happening, ensure the security during election campaigns and the elections, and remain neutral," President Yudhoyono said in his address to mark the 67th anniversary of Indonesian Police, commonly known ans Bhayangkara Day. The Bhayangkara Day was commemorated nationwide with president Yudhoyono leading the national ceremony held at the Mobile Brigade Headquarters in Kelapa Dua, Depok in West Java on Monday. In his speech, Yudhoyono reminded the entire nation`s police force to improve their overall performance and capabilities in order to ensure security and order during the election campaigns. He said the police should act as patron, community protector, and preserver of security and public order. "Take the lesson from 2004 and 2009 elections and be ready to act professionally and proportionally in the upcoming 2014 general elections," the president said. Besides, the head of state also called on all people to support the police to maintain security, peace, and order in the elections. "The peaceful election in 2014 is our common responsibility and therefore we have to support the police to ensure security and order," the president noted.
