RAMADAN: Saudi Embassy To Distribute 15,000 'Iftarkhs' Food Packs

KUALA LUMPUR, May 1 (Bernama) -- The Embassy of Saudi Arabia, via its Religious Attache office, will be giving out about 15,000 packs of Iftar Khaadimul Haramain Al-Syareefain (IFTARKHS) food nationwide in conjunction with Ramadan. The packets will be distributed to frontliners, orphanages, as well as communities of Rohingyas, Orang Asli, and Saudi-born subjects. Saudi ambassador to Malaysia Dr Mahmoud Hussien Saeed Qattan said IFTARKHS is a yearly offering by the King of Saudi Arabia, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, which is distributed to Muslim countries all over the world. “The embassy will also distribute 1,000 aid baskets containing basic food items such as rice, oil, sugar, and flour, among others.” he said at the press conference after the launching ceremony of IFTARKHS, here, today. Qattan said the food packs and aid baskets will be directly sent via delivery service companies. The ambassador also expressed his appreciation to the respective establishments involved in making the IFTARKHS distribution easier. At the ceremony, the embassy also contributed 300 food aid baskets to the Islamic Orang Asli Welfare Agency of Malaysia (BAKOAIS). On April 23, King Salman allocated an additional 5 million Riyal (RM5.72 million) to sponsor the iftar (breaking of fast) for this year in 18 Muslim countries. The programme aims to support iftars for a million needy Muslims globally amid the COVID-19 pandemic. --BERNAMA
