Rayong people mark Suthorn Phu Memorial Day

RAYONG, June 26 (TNA) – Local people and authorities conducted a ceremony today to mark the 231st birthday anniversary of Sunthorn Phu, a great poet of the Rattanakosin period whom UNESCO considers as a great world poet and whose works have become students’ textbooks. The ceremony took place at the Sunthorn Phu Memorial in Kram sub-district of Klaeng district at about 9.30am. Among his famous works are Nirat Phu Khao Thong, Nirat Suphan, Pleng Yao Thawai Owat, Karb Phra Chai Suriya and Phra Apai Mani saga. Phra Apai Mani was praised for being the best work demonstrating Sunthorn Phu’s skills, knowledge and attitudes. Activities to mark the Sunthorn Phu Memorial Day were set there for four days and four nights from June 24 to 27. They included a quiz on Sunthorn Phu, a drawing contest relating to his works, a recitation contest of his poems, a poetry contest, cultural performances and a fair of local products. (TNA)
