RECONSTRUCTION OF 289M SONSGOLON BRIDGE COMMENCES

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Ulaanbaatar City Governor’s Office, with the help of the Government of People’s Republic of China’s soft loan, is implementing projects to reconstruct and repair bridges in the capital. As such, a groundbreaking ceremony of the reconstructions of 312m long bridge above the Tuul River in Bayanzurkh district and 289.4m long reinforced concrete Sonsgolon bridge took place on May 5.
Within the framework of the project, the road connecting the bridge was expanded into four lanes, so the bridge has to be rebuilt into four lanes as well. The reconstruction is important for reducing traffic loads in the Nisekh and Yarmag area of city, as residents and accommodations have increased in the area.
During his speech at the ceremony, Governor and Mayor of Ulaanbaatar City S.Batbold said “The bridges currently used in Ulaanbaatar have aged more than 50 years and is lacking major or minor overhauls. Therefore, we’re urgently starting the reconstructions of these bridges. Reconstruction of the 289 meter long Sonsgolon Bridge is of particular importance. Next to the old bridge, a 10.4 meter wide two-lane bridge will be built in order to reconstruct the old one. Therefore, a total of 21 meter wide bridge with four-lane will be built”.
The blueprints were drawn by a consulting service company “GBET” LLC. As a contractor, Beijing Uni-Construction Group LLC was selected to build the bridge within 2017-2018.
The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by the Governor and Mayor of Ulaanbaatar City S.Batbold, MP B.Batzorig, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of People’s Republic of China to Mongolia Xing Haiming, Deputy Mayor of the City P.Bayarkhuu, Director of the Ulaanbaatar Department of Road Development J.Togtokhbayar and other officials in the sector.
