REGIONAL PROFESSIONALS GATHER IN ULAANBAATAR TO DISCUSS NEWBORN SCREENING

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ On August 24-26, Ulaanbaatar is hosting the10th Asia Pacific regional meeting of International society for newborn screening (ISNS) under the theme “Racing to expand newborn screening in the Asia Pacific Region and in Mongolia”. Mongolian Society of newborn screening together with Health Ministry are organizing the meeting. Newborn screening is a public health program of screening in infants shortly after birth for a list of conditions that are treatable, but not clinically evident in the newborn period. Health Minister A.Tsogtsetseg said “- The Health Ministry supports newborn screening within a policy to reduce infant mortality, to improve children’s livelihood quality and prevent from disability. It is also included in the 2016-2020 Government action plan. We will make efforts to create system to involve every newborn infant in screening at national level”. The two-day program of the main conference and pre- and post-conference workshops will provide comprehensive updates on the participants include scientists, physicians and health professionals, who are working in newborn screening and managing patients with genetic diseases and congenital anomalies across the Asia- Pacific region.
