Regional rice and plant exhibition held in Bangkok
BANGKOK, February 21 (TNA) – A regional rice and plant exhibition is being held in Bangkok from February 20-24, during which rice and exotic plants of Thailand and those from other member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) are showcased.
The 4th Amazing Agriculture Exhibition, themed “The Value of Plants and Grains” and jointly organized by agencies concerned under the Thai Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives and an established Thai newspaper, Matichon, is held at the MCC Hall of The Mall department store, Bang Kapi branch in the Thai capital.
The exhibition features 45 types of Thai rice and new Thai grains developed through research projects to create public awareness on the significance of rice for the Thai Kingdom.
What are also on display are fruits from other ASEAN member countries, including, the Philippines’ Carabao Mango, Malaysia’s Star Fruit of B10 and B17, also known as Honey Star, and Indonesia’s Salacca. Although the fruits are planted in many countries in the 10-member ASEAN bloc, their texture, taste and colour vary, though not much.
Other exotic plants on display include giant squash, with the largest on display weighing a hefty 31.5 kilogrammes, while an enormous two-coloured pineapple tree is also shown, amazing visitors with their gigantic appearances. (TNA)
