Registration for migrant workers ends Monday
BANGKOK, Aug 5 (TNA) -- Registration for migrant workers in Thailand ends next Monday, said Varanon Peetiwan, director-general of Labour Ministry’s Employment Department.
There will be no extension of registration period for migrant workers and all the registration centres nationwide will be closed on that day, said Mr Varanon.
He said labour minister has ordered concerned officials to complete the interview both employers and employees within 30 days after the expiry of registration.
In the case that employers have employed more than 10 migrant employees, they will have to prepare and bring with them the important documents such as employment contract and the condition of the contract, said Mr Varanon.
Myanmar and Cambodian interpreters are posted at the centres while the Labour Ministry expects that between 300-500 migrant workers could be interviewed a day, he said.
To facilitate nationality verification process, Myanmar officials are prepared to open three more centres in Thailand. The three additional centres are in Chiang Mai, Nakhon Sawan and Songkhla.
Presently, there are already five centres in this country.
Nationality verification process for Cambodians will be opened in three provinces of Rayong, Songkhla and Bangkok.
For Lao workers, they will have to report to either the Lao embassy or consulate in Thailand because there is still no such national verification centre for them at present. (TNA)
