Religious teacher killed in Pattani

PATTANI, June 21 (TNA) - A religious teacher was gunned down outside a mosque in the violence-plagued province of Pattani last night. Ahwae Tohsatu was shot while he was returning home with his son from prayers at a local mosque. His son was unscathed. He was a Muslim religious teacher at a community school in Nong Chik district and was respected by people in the community. He also worked for the society and helped the authorities provide safety in the community. Spokesman of the Internal Security Operations Command Region 4, Col Pramote Prom-in, expressed condolence to his family and praised him as A Man of Peace. The police are gathering evidence to track down an unknown number ofattacker and to find out the motive behind the killing if it is linked to a personal conflict or southern insurgency. A burial ceremony for his body was conducted this morning. (TNA)
