Representatives Council stresses support to cutting off ties with Qatar

Manama, June 6 (BNA): The Representatives Council asserted its support to all measures taken by the government regarding cutting off diplomatic ties with Qatar in order to protect national security. The decision was taken after a careful study and unrelenting Bahraini and Gulf efforts to convince Qatar to review its policies and stances which have an impact on the kingdom’s security and stability given fraternal and historic relations between the two countries and peoples and Bahrain’s keenness on GCC unity.
In a statement issued today, the council revealed that the decision to cut diplomatic ties with Qatar was the result of Qatar’s insistence on going ahead with its policy of interfering in Bahrain’s internal affairs, escalation, media provocation, support of terror groups and their activities and providing the needed funding sources for Iran-related groups to carry out acts of sabotage and wreak chaos which contravenes all international conventions and covenants and is in breach with the GCC and Arab fundamentals, values and traditions.
The council affirmed that maintaining Bahrain’s security and stability, ensuring sovereignty of the state of law and institutions and preserving national gains is top priority and are at the centre of national unanimity.
The council expressed hope the Qatari leadership would comprehend and fathom the risks facing Bahrain which required taking such measures, stressing respect and appreciation of the Qatari people with whom the Bahraini people have relations of kinship. It called on the Qatari decision-makers to review the policies which engendered such a situation and renounce them in order to overcome the crisis.
