Resumption Of Movement Of Goods Via Padang Besar Checkpoint Thursday - Thai DPM

BANGKOK, May 6 (Bernama) -- Thailand Deputy Prime Minister Jurin Laksanavisit said Malaysia has agreed to the resumption of movement of goods  by road via the Padang Besar checkpoint in Sadao District of Songkhla, southern Thailand starting Thursday.   Jurin. who is also the Commerce Minister, said transportation of goods via the Padang Besar checkpoint, which was temporarily suspended to contain the COVID-19 pandemic, will resume tomorrow. Resumption of rail cargo via the Padang Besar checkpoint had started back on April 11.  “Thailand will transport all goods including rubber wood, fruits and commodity products to Malaysia via rail and truck cargo through the Padang Besar checkpoint starting tomorrow  “This will boost border trade between Thailand and Malaysia,” he said in a statement. He thanked the Malaysian government for reopening the Padang Besar checkpoint for movement of goods to strengthen border trade cooperation. Last month, Jurin had written a letter to Malaysian Minister of International Trade and Industry Mohamed Azmin Ali to seek the resumption of goods transport by road between Malaysia and Thailand. Malaysia is the biggest partner for Thailand’s border trade with two-way trade totalling 56.47 billion baht (RM35.33 billion) last year. --BERNAMA
