Royal interest in fostering marine reserves welcomed

Manama, Feb. 15 (BNA): Chief Executive of the Supreme Council for Environment, Dr Mohammed Mubarak Bin-Dainah, stressed that Bahrain’s announcement of Northern Herat as nature reserves areas reflects the royal interest in conserving the national marine reserves and natural resources.
Bin-Dainah told Bahrain News Agency (BNA) that Bahrain’s decision on adopting the Northern Herat, 1369 square kilometer, as nature reserves accentuates its endeavour to add the same to the international heritage map. He added Bahrainis can obtain pearl hunting licenses from the Fisheries Directorate and to have the pearls hunted within the reservation tested by an internationally recognized laboratory for pricing prior to selling them.
He pointed the significance of raising fishermen and seafarers’ awareness of conserving the marine environment, noting the SCE beach clean-up annual plan to serve the marine environment conservation.
The SCE today staged the Environmental Forum at the Bahrain National Museum to coincide with the National environment Day themed (Marine Reserves.. National Treasure).
On the sidelines of the forum, the SCE also organized a symposium focused on the National Communication for the Protection of Turtles and Sea cows, ecotourism and the convention on biological diversity and the program of naturally protected areas.
