Sailors from Russia, Brunei train jointly in South China Sea
TASS, November 23. A task force of Russia’s Pacific Fleet conducted joint drills with Brunei Navy warships in the South China Sea, fleet spokesman Nikolai Voskresensky told reporters on Friday.
"The Russian Pacific Fleet’s task force, comprising the Varyag missile cruiser, the Admiral Panteleyev destroyer and the Boris Butoma large sea tanker completed its business call at the port of Muara (Brunei)," the source said. "After leaving Muara, the warships of the Russian Pacific Fleet and the Brunei Navy conducted a joint exercise in the South China Sea to train naval search and rescue, joint tactical maneuvers and communications training," Voskresensky said.
The Pacific Fleet ships embarked on a three-month journey from Russia’s Far Eastern port of Vladivostok on October 1. The sailors will take part in a number of drills, including in the Russian-Indian maneuvers, Indra Navy-2018. The ships have earlier arrived in Japan, South Korea and China for business visits.
