Saudi Ministry of Media Provides Virtual Press Office For Haj 2020 Coverage
KUALA LUMPUR, July 27 (Bernama) -- Journalists unable to physically cover this year's Haj due to COVID-19 will still be able to do so, virtually, through the "Hajj Virtual Press Office" which was launched on Saturday by Saudi Ministry of Media.
In a statement available on its website, hajj.media.gov.sa, it said that the advanced digital service available in both Arabic and English will ensure the best-in-class service to local and international media covering this year’s Haj season.
"The service will allow journalists to receive key files, materials and comments, respond to media inquiries, interview officials and stakeholders and attend and participate in live press conferences," it said.
It added that local and international journalists will also be able to request exclusive services such as high-quality pictures or custom-made videos.
Haj 2020 is being held in the midst of exceptional global health circumstances caused by COVID-19.
According to reports, only about 1,000 pilgrims were allowed to perform Haj this year – a small figure compared to last year's 2.5 million pilgrims.
This year's Haj is limited to citizens and residents inside Saudi Arabia who met preset conditions and who have been subjected to quarantine procedures to ensure their health.
Haj 2020 pilgrims make up a total of 160 nationalities.
