Seawater Receding One Kilometer Surprises Local Residents

Jakarta, Feb 7 (Antara) - Receding sea water up to one kilometer surprises the local residents, and the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency, BMKG is confused with the unique natural phenomenon. According to a local resident Tio Salim, this is the first time such a phenomenon has occurred where the receding sea water has killed several fishes, leaving a number of fishing boats stranded in the dry sea bed. "This phenomenon has stirred confusion and concern among the residents," Tio asserted. Tio also stated that the receding sea water revealed the small pathway that connected islands around Karangantu waters. "That is something you don`t see every day," added Tio. "This strange phenomenon is a rare event; the sea water has never receded more than 200 meters off the shore, before," stated a local fisherman Tarno Yadi, who was trying to get his fishing boat out of the dried sea bed. The local residents fear that this strange phenomenon may trigger a potential tsunami because the reasons for the sea receding is still unclear. The local climatology agency has checked the conditions and has been monitoring the site, and they claim to be surprised with the sea water receding. "This is a natural event that happens once in a lifetime. We are also confused as to how such a phenomenon can occur," stated the local weather agency office spokesperson Tri Tjahjo here on Friday.
