PUTRAJAYA, Dec 12 (Bernama) -- The government is expected to determine the required number of foreign workers according to economic sectors by middle of next month, Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein said Monsay. He said 93,000 illegal foreign workers involved in the legalisation process under the 6P programme were expected to fulfill each sector's requirements. Hishammuddin said Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin would convene a meeting with Ministers of Human Resources, International Trade and Industry, Tourism and Higher Education for the purpose in the second week of January. "Through the meeting, the ministers will personally make their requests of foreign workers for their respective sectors," he told reporters here Monday. Earlier, Hishammuddin had also met with Home Ministry's senior officers involved in the legalisation and enforcement processes for the 6P programme. Over 2.3 million foreign workers had voluntarily registered through the biometric system under the 6P programme after the registration period ended on Aug 31 and over 50,000 of them had decided to return to their countries of origin. Hishammuddin said the ministry's officials had also been given until end of this year to solve all issues, especially in the legalisation process, including policy decision involving other ministries. Prior to the meeting, Hishammuddin had also convened a discussion with representatives and ambassadors from Indonesia, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Nepal and India.
