Security measures stepped up in Hat Yai before Hari Raya Aidilfitri

SONGKHLA, June 20 (TNA) -- Security officials including plain-clothes ones are intensifying their precautions to ensure security in Hat Yai district of Songkhla province ahead of the Hari Raya Aidilfitri, the day that marks the end of the month-long Ramadan fasting month. People and tourists were actively shopping in the commercial area at the center of Hat Yai this morning despite a major bomb attack in Pattani province yesterday in the lead-up to the Hari Raya Aidilfitri, a festive celebrated by Muslims. The bombing apparently had no impacts on Hat Yai where security officials, volunteers and bomb experts on patrols with scanners were actively watching out for any suspicious object. The serious security measures boost confidence among local people and tourists. More visitors from Malaysia were expected to visit Hat Yai this weekend for the Hari Raya Aidilfitri. Therefore the Songkhla police command ordered the tight security measures to prevent an untoward incident. (TNA)
