Siriraj Hospital, UCSF join forces on treatment of gastrointestinal patients

BANGKOK, December 11 (TNA) - Thailand-based Siriraj Hospital and US-based University of California, San Francisco, (UCSF) have coopeated on the treatment of gastrointestinal patients, covering exchange of knowledge and experiences and transfer of relevant technologies. Clinical Professor Dr. Udom Kachintorn, Dean of Siriraj Hospital's Faculty of Medicine under Bangkok-based Mahidol University, and UCSF representatives told a joint press conference in Bangkok Tuesday that Siriraj Hospital, Thailand's most established and oldest hospital, and UCSF, one of 10 campuses of the University of California dedicated to be a centre of health and biomedical sciences research, patient care, and education, are jointly organizing the 1st Minimally Invasive Forum in the Thai capital from December 11-12, aimed to be a platform for both sides to share updated knowledge, experiences and medical technologies for the treatment of gastrointestinal patients through the laparoscopic or minimally-invasive surgery, which causes less pain than the traditional surgery. Participants of the two-day forum, which is sponsored by an honorary professor fund for His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej for the minimally-invasive surgery, include over 200 medical experts from China, Japan and Thailand. The agreed cooperation between Siriraj Hospital and the UCSF also includes their exchange of medical personnel to further development the medical field, amid the rising number of gastrointestinal patients with relevant and consequent fatalities in Thailand.
