Smugglers Swallow Syabu-Filled Condoms

SEPANG (Malaysia), March 1 (Bernama) -- Three foreign men who swallowed condoms stuffed with syabu were arrested at KL International Airport last month. Customs assistant director-general (enforcement) Zainul Abidin Taib said enforcement officers came to know of the drugs when they carried out a scan on the three men, aged between 27 and 32. The three had arrived separately between 16 and 26, he told a news conference Thursday. Altogether, 191 condoms containing drugs worth RM625,000 (US$1=RM3) were obtained from the three men who had since been placed under arrest. Police are investigating the case under Section 39B of the Penal Code which carries the mandatory death sentence upon conviction. Zainul Abidin said the department also seized 4kg of ketamine worth RM72,000 from a man, an Indian national, at the Low-Cost Carrier Terminal at 5.50am on Feb 25. The KLIA customs seized 44.4kg of drugs worth RM8.3 million so far this year. Last month alone, 24.8kg of drugs worth RM3.4 million were seized at the airport. -- BERNAMA
