St Johns To Distribute 40,000 Hand Sanitizers To Flood Victims In Thailand

GEORGE TOWN (Malaysia), Dec 2 (Bernama) -- The Penang St John's Ambulance will contribute 40,000 bottles of hand sanitizer worth RM400,000 (US$127,520) to flood victims in Thailand on Saturday. Its vice president Khoo Hun Poh said the contribution was aimed at helping flood victims in Thailand who are facing a water crisis to clean themselves and prevent the spread of diseases. "Dirty or contaminated water is capable of spreading waterborne diseases like diarrhea, cholera and various other diseases. By using sanitizers, flood victims will be able to reduce such risk. "Based on clinical tests, the use of sanitizers regularly can kill up to 99.9 percent bacteria," said Khoo after receiving the contributions from Peoplesoft Ventures Sdn Bhd, here Thursday. Thailand suffered one of its worst floods when 22 of its 77 provinces was inundated by flood waters, killing 562 people and damaging property worth billions of dollars. Khoo said the contributions would be handed over to the government of Thailand and expected to be distributed to Chiang Mai, Bangkok and Chao Phraya. The programme was initiated by the Penang New Lions Century Club. -- BERNAMA
