Storm Brings Down Eight Trees Around Malaysia's Capital

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 5 (Bernama) -- A storm that wreaked havoc in various parts of the city Sunday evening brought down eight large trees onto business premises and cars. Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue operations assistant director Azizan Ismail said they received calls from Hartamas, Jinjang, Kepong, Jalan Tun Razak and Jalan Gombak. "We also received calls concerning a collapsed ceiling at a condominium in Bandar Sri Manjalara and a fallen billboard in Kepong," he said. "We dispatched our vehicles from the nearest fire and rescue units to remove the fallen trees and objects and direct traffic flow," he said when met here, Sunday. Azizan said flash floods and falling trees were common during heavy rains and the public can contact 03 - 92057204 to report such incidents. On a separate matter, Kuala Lumpur Investigation and Traffic Regulations staff officer DSP Abdullah Roning advised pedestrians in Little India, Brickfields to be cautious when walking in the area, to prevent accidents. He said there has been three accidents there so far this year and police were made to understand they were all due to careless pedestrians. "There were no deaths, only injuries. The road is one-way for buses and taxis and the pedestrian crossing signal is faulty," he explained in a text message Sunday. Yet another accident occurred about 3 pm Sunday when an unidentified man and his child were hit by a bus while crossing the road. Angry passersby created a commotion and started attacking the bus causing its driver and passengers to flee the scene, said a witness who identified himself as Loganathan.
