Students rushed to hospital following chlorine leak

BANGKOK, February 4 (TNA) - Some 40 students of Saint Dominic School in Bangkok were rushed to hospital on Monday morning, following a chlorine leak from a swimming pool in the school's compound. The students, aged of 8-11, suffered from nausea, vomit, headache, and burning eyes and noses from the strong smell of the spreading chlorine and was rushed to nearby Bumrungrad International Hospital. Doctors later said that the ill students suffered from slight injuries and most of them have already been discharged from the hospital, leaving only 14 of them being under medical observation. The school, meanwhile, announced that the situation has now been under control and the school will be re-opened for normal classes on Tuesday, after its one-day closure following the incident. Officials of the Pollution Control Department and the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department reported that the incident happened when contractors were refilling chlorine into the school's swimming pool, but the refilling was over its safety standard, causing the chlorine diffusion.
