Thai PM visits Mongolia for 11th ASEM Summit
BANGKOK, July 14 (TNA) - Thai Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha is visiting Mongolia to attend the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) 2016 in Ulaanbaatar, the Mongolian capital, scheduled for July 14-16, marking the 20th anniversary of the establishment of ASEM.
Deputy Government Spokesman Major General Werachon Sukondhapatipak told journalists that the Thai prime minister left Bangkok for Ulaanbaatar on Thursday morning and is scheduled to later deliver a speech at the 11th ASEM Summit in the Mongolian capital, focused on promoting connectivity between Asia and Europe and inter-continental cooperation more concretely, particularly on anti-human trafficking and transnational crime.
The deputy spokesman said that the Thai prime minister's speech will also include the presentation of the Sufficiency Economy Principle, advised by His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, for the application by interested countries to be beneficial to the global community eventually.
"What Thailand's expectation from the 11th ASEM Summit is more concrete cooperation between ASEAN and ASEM to enable the Thai Kingdom to solve issues related to human trafficking in a sustainable manner, after having eased the problems to a certain extent through law enforcements and stricter practices by concerned officers" the deputy spokesman stated.
"For issues related to transnational crime, there must be more inter-continental cooperation on information and intelligence exchanges, as well as the development of personnel capacity", the deputy spokesman pointed out.
According to the deputy spokesman, Thailand should also benefit from the 11th ASEM Summit in terms of presenting the country's sustainable development targets and applying the inter-continental connectivity to handle comprehensive assistance to local farmers through the adoption of European technologies for the production of more value-added processed farm products to be exported to, among other overseas markets, Europe, while sharing the benefits to neighbouring countries as well.
The deputy spokesman acknowledged that results of the 11th ASEM Summit will be stated in the Chairman Statement and the Ulaanbaatar Declaration, covering agreed cooperation on fighting climate change and maritime security. (TNA)
