Thai PM Yingluck To Attend ASEAN Summit

By Jamaluddin Muhammad BANGKOK, Nov 12 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has decided to attend the Asean Summit in Bali next week after skipping the current Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meeting in Honolulu. Yingluck said Saturday that she would attend the Asean Summit as well as other related summits during three-day meeting in Bali. Among the summits are the East Asia Summit, Asean-UN Summit and US-Asean Summit. Leaders of 10 Asean member countries as well as United States, Russia, China, Japan and South Korea are expected to converge in Bali, Indonesia next week for the meetings. Earlier this week, Yincluck said she had to skip the three-day APEC meeting starting today due to attend to pressing matter at home -- the worst flood in five decades that currently hit the country. About one-third of Thailand remains inundated by floodwaters, affecting more than one million people from 24 provinces in the northern and central regions. The floods hit Thailand in stages since July 25. -- BERNAMA
