Thai students win 8 gold medals from world mathematics contest
BANGKOK, July 21 (TNA) -- Thai students got eight gold medals from the Po Leung Kuk Primary Mathematics World Contest 2017 (PMWC 2017) in Hong Kong.
The gold medals were among 19 prizes and 34 medals that Thai students captured from the event.
Suchitra Patanaphum, deputy secretary-general of the Basic Education Commission, said 16 Thai primary students joined the contest on July 15-20 and were among contestants from 15 countries including Taiwan, China, South Africa, Bulgaria, Macau, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, the Philippines, Indonesia, Vietnam, Mongolia, the United States and Australia.
Thai students won 19 prizes and 34 medals in individual, group and team contest categories.
In the team category, two gold medals went to two Thai teams: Bangkok B and Nakhon Pathom.
Bangkok B comprised students from Nakhon Ratchasima Kindergarten, Rayong Kindergarten, Marie Anusorn School and Kasetsart University Laboratory School. The Nakhon Pathom team consisted of students from Sutheethorn Kindergarten in Nakhon Pathom province.
In the individual category, Thai pupils captured 14 medals comprising six silver medals and eight bronze medals.
In the group category, Thailand won an honorable mention. (TNA)
