Thai workers return home on Hari Raya Haji holiday
SONGKHLA, Aug 31 (TNA) – Sadao immigration check point in the southern province of Songkhla upgraded service to facilitate Thai workers in Malaysia, returning home as well as Malaysian tourists during the Hari Raya Haji celebration on Sept 1.
The Thai-Malaysia border checkpoint in Sadao district are crowded with Thai people, who are returning home to celebrate the Hari Raya Haji with their families and Malaysian tourists, who travel to Thailand on holidays.
Hari Raya Haji (hajj celebration day) is an event observed by Muslims all over the world. It is also known as Eid al Adha, the Feast of Sacrifice.
More officials are deployed to man the checkpoints to speed up immigration services for travellers, waiting in long queues to cross the border.
Additional immigration booths have been opened to check travel document for inbound travellers.
According to the Sadao immigration office, about 12,000 Thais and Malaysian tourists entered the kingdom daily through the Sadao checkpoint in the past few days, tripling the usual number. Today, it is expected at least 15,000 people will cross the border via the Sadao checkpoint.
Security measures have been beefed up to screen suspicious persons and those, who are on the black list. (TNA)
