Thailand’s Sakon Nakhon province remains flooded
SAKON NAKHON, July 30 (TNA) – The northeastern province of Sakon Nakhon has been hit by widespread flooding, while the provincial airport remains closed until Monday.
In the province’s economic area, Sukkasem Road has been flooded under up to one meter of water in some spots while some residents have been stranded in the upper floors of their home.
Many important streets remain under water while a main swamp is swollen and cannot receive much floodwater, drained from the municipality. However, overall situation showed signs of easing.
Transport Minister Akom Termpitayapaisit on Sunday visited Sakon Nakhon Airport to inspect the flooding situation inside the premises. He will later meet with officials from the provincial disaster prevention and mitigation office to find ways to drain water out of the airport.
The airport remains closed until tomorrow’s midnight, and then the officials will decide if it can be reopened. (TNA)
