Thailand Lauds Malaysian Help For Its Flood Victims

HATYAI (Thailand), Nov 9 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's concern and seriousness in sending aid for the Thai flood victims is lauded by the Thai government. Songkhla governor Vinyoo Thongsakul said drinking water and dry food items were needed by victims of floods which hit Ayuthaya and Bangkok since August and expected to last another month. "We are deeply touched by the help offered by Malaysians," he said when receiving three trailers of drinking water and halal dry food at the Thai Army Fourth Division Headquarters (Circle 42) here, Tuesday evening. The Prime Minister's Special Tasks officer, Latt Shariman Abdullah, headed the mission to send the third aid, thus far, worth RM100,000. (US$1=RM3.13) "We understand the sufferings of the flood victims. As such, I was ordered to mobilise non-government organisations to gather aid for the flood victims," he said. Earlier, Latt Shariman headed two missions to send water and food, making the total value of aid at RM300,000. The Malaysian government gave US$1 million to Bangkok. -- BERNAMA Malaysia
