Thailand to send 500 tonnes of rice to help typhoon-hit Philippines

BANGKOK, December 11 (TNA) - Thailand will soon send 500 tonnes of rice to assist people in the neighbouring Philippines who have been affected by the devastating Typhoon Bopha. Deputy Government Spokesman Phakdihan Himathongkham told a press conference that the Thai Cabinet, at its weekly meeting in Bangkok on Tuesday, approved the donation of the 500 tonnes of the 5 per cent Thai white rice from the government's rice pledging scheme to the recent Typhoon Bobha victims in the Philippines, as proposed by the Ministry of Commerce. Typhoon Bopha ravaged the Philippines from December 4-7, resulting in over 700 fatalities and several others injured. (TNA)
