Thailand: Six Cats Among Assets Seized From Drugs Gang

By Linda Khoo BANGKOK, March 16 (Bernama) – Six cats were among assets confiscated from a suspected drugs gang in the eastern province of Rayong Monday, Thai police said. The cats, including one resembling a mini leopard, were seized during a raid by Thailand’s Narcotics Suppression Police on a residence in Klaeng district in Rayong. The police also seized assets worth more than 35 million baht (100 baht equals RM13.39). Police arrested a Thai man allegedly involved in laundering drug money and managing the finances of the drugs network run by Soradet Sonsiri, known as “Kook Rayong”. Soradet is already in police custody. Local media reported that the house and cats belong to Soradet’s wife who is still on the run. Assistant to National Police Chief, Pol Lt Gen Chinnapat Sarasin, said the six cats were sent to the Office of Narcotics Control Board and are scheduled to be put up for auction with other confiscated assets soon. “It is believed the cats were among tactics used by drug traffickers in drug-money laundering operations,” he said. -- BERNAMA
